Ink Cartridges:
More on the Technology
Inside your Inkjet Cartridge
Did you know that
the 3 colors used in color printer ink cartridges are different than
the three colors used in a monitor? In an inkjet cartridge, cyan,
magenta and yellow, the primary "subtractive" colors, are
used. In a monitor, the primary "additive" colors red, blue
and green are used. The inkjet cartridge ink absorbs light, reflecting
the colors back. Unlike the ink in printer ink cartridges, the monitor
colors are light sources.
One thing that
the ink in printer ink cartridges has in common with monitor colors
is the use of what is called "dithering". Dithering is the
process by which closely positioned different amounts of key primary
colors, either the 3 different inkjet cartridge ink colors or the
3 monitor colors, from a distance, merge to form any color desired.
So, whether you're
using HP cartridges, Epson cartridges, or whatever brand, this is
the current technology used in all color printer ink cartridges. Be
sure to check our recommended sources for a quality inkjet cartridge
at incredible savings!
