Laser
Toner Cartridges:
When you Change your Laser Printer
Cartridges, Clean your Printer
There are some
positive steps you can take to keep print quality high on your laser
printer. You should clean your printer every time you change the laser
toner cartridges. Also you should clean it after printing approximately
6,000 pages, or whenever print quality problems occur. Be careful
removing the laser printer cartridges. Clean the outside of the printer
with a lightly water-dampened cloth. Clean the inside with only a
dry, lint-free cloth. Observe the warnings and cautions regarding
the cleaning tasks. To avoid doing damage to laser printer cartridges,
never use an ammonia based cleaner. Ever notice what a mess you can
make when changing laser toner cartridges in your laser printer or
changing copier toner? Ever noticed how fine it is and its ability
to cling to absolutely everything? The high quality of laser printing
is due to the fineness of the particles of the toner in the laser
printer cartridges. The method used to arrange the toner into those
super-sharp images is by applying a static charge to a roller, which
then presses the toner to the paper. These two properties make toner
a real problem when it comes to cleaning up a spill.
The
best way to clean laser toner cartridges is with a rag if possible
or with compressed air for those tricky bits but always be aware of
how to use compressed air safely. (Goggles and dust masks are a good
idea!) For large spills, you should be able to use a dustpan and brush
for the bulk of the spill. Remember to take your time when changing
laser printer cartridges!
