Inkjet Ink:
Cleaning Printing Ink From
Your Skin and Clothes

Many people these days are changing their own inkjet ink cartridges, using printing ink refill kits. This sometimes can get messy, and when it does, it pays to know how to clean up. Printing ink is not fun to deal with when it is spilled. Here are some tips on cleaning up inkjet ink for you folks who are enterprising enough to fill your own printer ink refills for your ink cartridges.

For cleaning inkjet ink off of skin, try a solution of cold water and mild bleach. Don't use hot water. Then clean off the excess printing ink and bleach with soap and water.

For cleaning inkjet ink off of clothes, first sponge the area around the stain with alcohol. Then apply the alcohol or solvent directly on the stain. Next, place the stain face down on clean white cleaning towels. Apply alcohol or solvent to the back of the stain. Replace towels frequently. Continue until no further printing ink is removed. Then rinse thoroughly. The thing about using hairspray on an ink stain, which is sort of an "old wives tale", was recommended in the past strictly for its alcohol content. The alcohol or volatile solvent is just for delivering the gooey stuff to your hair. The solvent dissipates into the air leaving the "stuff" which makes your hair solid in hurricane force winds. So in a nutshell, hairspray is probably not the best idea for removing something like printer ink stains.
